Hello
Jay Robb:
First
of all I want to say thank you for your inspiring words of
encouragement and dedication that you have for the better
health of your listeners/readers. My life changed completely
in December of 1997 when my belated husband was diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer.
At the time of his diagnosis he was given approximately 6
months to live. However we were blessed with having him with
us for an additional 3 and half years past diagnosis. I too
believe in the power of prayer and small miracles. When my
husband was diagnosed with his cancer I weighed nearly 218
pounds. I stand only 5'3 and the weight was just
uncomfortable, not to mention unhealthy. The doctors told me
that if I had intentions of being my husbands caretaker and
to take responsibility at home, then I should consider first
taking care of myself and lose weight.
I was living in a tri-level house and with the added weight
I was carying around, I was winded, tired and frustrated to
say the least. The surmounting responsibility of taking care
of my husband through his illness was an added stress. I was
a wreck both mentally and physically. I was depressed
because of my husbands illness and the fact that I also was
an unhealthy candidate trying to care for my husband. My
husband and I love(d) watching the Sunday KUSI morning news
and I secretly looked forward to hearing you talk about the
success of your Fat Burning Diet along with Kita Pelly
coming in and doing her weekly exercise. I started a weight
loss program and incorporated a lot of your ideas and
recipes. As the weight started coming off, I even began
looking forward to going to the gym to work out. I started
eating healthier and even modified my husbands diet to
restrict a lot of sugar (refined) from his diet. Even though
he was not diabetic, his pancreas did not work properly so
we restricted a lot of foods with high sugar content. He was
my inspiration and motivation.
As the weight started coming off of me, I could see how
happy he was and was so proud of my achievements. I was on
this program for me to be healthy for him, and I have to say
that when I could see the sparkle in his eye as the weight
was coming off, it was like I had won the lottery. I felt
flattered and almost reborn again. I had been given a second
chance. As the weight came off I felt better than I had when
I was in my 20's. I knew that exercising was another way to
cope with the added stress of having to care for a terminal
person, let alone the love of my life, my husband.
Exercising at least 4 to 5 times a week was beneficial to me
which allowed me to have the endurance to care for my
husband. Even though the ordeal of your spouse having
terminal cancer is the ultimate in mental exhaustion, I was
able to care for him without feeling winded, tired, sluggish
or run down. I owe so much to God and I especially thank Him
for allowing me to tune in and listen to you on Sunday
mornings. I have so many people to thank for getting me back
on track to lose the weight, and want you to know that you
are one of them. It took me about 18 months to lose the
weight. I went from 218 pounds to 147. I would like to lose
about 20 more. I want to tone up and be in the best health
possible. It seems that the last 20 pounds are really the
hardest for me right now. I work at SDSU and I am a member
of the ARC where faculty, staff and students can have
memberships. I try to work out 4 to 5 times a week. My work
out is just over an hour. I do at least 30 minutes of
cardio, then I use the weight machines for the rest of my
work out...
Before my husband passed away last July, he was so happy
that he was able to witness my weight loss. He was always
ready with a compliment. My sisters would tell me how he
would tell them how proud he was of me and how he wished he
had another 50 years with me. The pain is still there in my
heart, but his love and his memory are forever in my heart.
I too, have to say how happy I was to achieve my goal of
weight loss since my being overweight was a concern he had
for me. He never was one to harp on my weight, but he was
concerned about the health repercussions. In your newsletter
you indicated that you would be opening more of your Diet
Centers. Do you foresee any coming to the East County or
near SDSU area? I would really like to join your center. I
have forwarded your news letter on to a co-worker I work
with who has about 40 pounds to lose. We both printed the
contract and have taken pictures of ourselves. We work out
together at the gym and we give each other the encouragement
when we feel ourselves feeling weak. When we reach our
goals, we will send you our results. Thank you again for all
you do and the words of encouragement that you give to
others. Hopefully one day in the future I will have the
pleasure of meeting you.
Most
Sincerely,
Theresa Blocker
