Fat Burning Diet Q & A

Fat Burning Questions and Answers With Jay Robb, Clinical Nutritionist and Author of the Fat Burning Diet Book

This section provides answers to frequently asked questions about the "Fat Burning Diet", exercise, and our world-class products.

How much weight can I expect to lose on Jay Robb's Fat Burning Diet?
While The Fat Burning Diet is a "normalizing diet that seems to work universally for everyone interested in good health and a lean body. If you are overweight (with high body fat levels) then the diet will help you reduce FAT specifically. Weight loss can be water, muscle and/or fat. Fat loss is just that, "FAT" loss, which is what The Fat Burning Diet is all about. While it is not our policy to make claims for fat loss results, a conservative estimate might be 2 pounds per week (but individual results vary see testimonials).

I'm a bodybuilder getting ready for a contest in 12 weeks. Can I use Jay Robb's Fat Burning Diet?
YES! In fact, there is an entire chapter devoted exclusively to bodybuilders and give explicit diet details for contest preparation. For more bodybuilding tips and information take a look at our bodybuilding Q&A section.

Is your Fat Burning Diet a high protein, low carbohydrate, high fat diet?
No. The Fat Burning Diet is an "ample" protein, limited carbohydrate, healthy fat diet. The Fat Burning Diet is a balanced way of eating that consists of lean protein foods, fruits, vegetables, flax oil and other whole foods. Carbohydrates are limited, not eliminated and fats are encouraged in normal amounts and from wholesome sources. The Fat Burning Diet limits carbohydrate foods, thus it controls insulin needs and secretion, making the diet suitable for anyone wishing to get leaner, have more energy and better mental focus.

Is your Fat Burning Diet like the Atkins Diet?
No. Dr. Atkins has developed a diet that is extremely low in carbohydrate compared to The Fat Burning Diet, at least at the beginning of his program. Dr. Atkins' program restricts a person's carbohydrate intake to a point that is low enough to cause the person to expend all their carbohydrate sources and reserves. When all carbohydrate reserves are exhausted, the body switches over to burning ketones, which are created from available fat reserves. On The Fat Burning Diet, you will be eating low carbohydrate foods that control insulin secretion to only a trickle and takes you to the edge of ketosis but not into ketosis. With insulin in check, your body will choose fat as it's primary source of fuel and use glucose as a secondary source as it prefers. On The Fat Burning Diet there will be no need to burn fat in the form of ketones, as fat is burned in a special lypolytic process in the Krebs cycle similar to glycolysis (carbohydrate burning).

Is your Fat Burning Diet like The Zone?
No. The real question should be, "Is The Zone like The Fat Burning Diet?" We were here first. The Zone (40-30-30), in my opinion, is a diet designed for active individuals and endurance athletes. I use The Zone diet to bulk up in bodybuilding, not lose fat. In my opinion, The Zone diet is too high in carbohydrates at 40% to lower my body fat enough to see my abs (unless I starve myself). Also, I don't believe that we are designed to eat such a strict balance of protein to fat to carbohydrate ratios. Eating a large salad with a 6 oz. of chicken breast will keep your insulin in check and can force your body to burn fat, yet that is a meal with about 20% carbohydrate, 50% protein and 30% fat. Dr. Atkins Diet may have 10% or less carbohydrate and still cause the body to burn fat. The key here is to manage INSULIN...period.

There is nothing magical about burning fat. First you insure your metabolism is up to speed as discussed in my book The Fat Burning Diet, then you reduce calories and control insulin. That's it. This can happen on The Zone Diet, Atkins Diet, or The Fat Burning Diet. The Fat Burning Diet, has more of a sliding scale that meets nearly anyone's needs for burning fat, which is why I feel it is the most suitable and healthy choice for getting lean and staying that way.

If I am pregnant can I use your Fat Burning Diet?
Yes, but check with your health care provider first. Growing a baby often requires special nutrients, specific to each individuals needs. That may explain why pregnant woman have specific food cravings at various times of their pregnancy.

I am nursing my baby. Can I follow your Fat Burning Diet?
Yes, but please check with your health care provider first. The diet is usually excellent for new mothers to melt away some of the extra weight they gained. The diet is also high enough in protein and essential fatty acids to help you keep your energy during the breast feeding months or years.

Can I drink coffee on The Fat Burning Diet?
Yes, but don't exceed one or perhaps two cups per day. Coffee can stimulate an insulin response, due to the drug caffeine, which is basically a stimulant similar to "speed". A better choice than to continue coffee drinking is to switch to decaf, then gradually wean yourself away from coffee altogether. Herb teas such as organic Green Tea are a much better choice as a hot beverage since it has powerful antioxidants to improve your health. I use our liquid stevia to sweeten the herb teas I consume so I can avoid the use of sugar and artificial sweeteners.

I notice you do not carry any of the energy bars, or the 40-30-30 bars, but you have created some high protein low carb bars, Why?
Many of the popular energy bars are made with very inexpensive ingredients that are usually carbohydrate based. Maltodextrin, fructose, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup are carbohydrates and are very common ingredients in most energy bars. Maltodextrin is simply CORNSTARCH, which is a very cheap and refined carbohydrate. Sugar is processed sugar cane or beet juice. Fructose is usually derived from corn that has gone through a special processing to yield this type of slower releasing "fruit-type" sugar. In essence, I feel that most energy bars are really CANDY BARS disguised and marketed as being something wholesome. In direct contrast, I've spent over a year formulating my new JayBar protein bars to be just that...protein based, with organic nut butters, no sugar and low in carbs and much more balanced for your energy and protein needs. My new line of bars contain high quality protein, are casein and dairy free, have NO hydrogenated oils. Best of all they taste great!

What makes your vitamins so special and why should I buy your nutritional products?
There are many supplements on the market today. What makes for a good nutritional product? Many factors, including price. I feel Jay Robb Enterprises, Inc. has combined the finest ingredients available to create our complete product line. Our protein powders are MOSTLY PROTEIN, instead of a mish-mash of cheap carbohydrates and fillers. When you READ our labels you will see the difference. And our prices speak for themselves. Plus we have been in business since 1988. Many nutritional companies jump into the market, make a splash with fancy advertising, then disappear. We're here for the long haul...and in my opinion, that makes a big difference when shopping for supplements.

I want a smaller, flatter stomach. I do hundreds of sit-ups each day, but I still have fat around my waist. Help!
Sit-ups can be a "waist" of time in your quest for a flat stomach. Basic crunches are better than sit-ups but will not get you to your goal unless you alter diet, burn away the excess fat and keep it off. This is where my Fat Burning Diet can really work magic for you. I've known many individuals who have done sit-ups for years and still have no abs. It's a pity. If you want results – then give my book The Fat Burning Diet a try.

Whey Protein Q & A

Is your Whey protein imported from China?
NO!  Our whey protein isolate is NOT imported from China.  When you buy Jay Robb protein you are buying one of the highest quality protein powders on the market today.

Do your protein powders contain added sugars, carbohydrates, aspartame or artificial sweeteners?
NO! We developed our protein product line in 1990 because we couldn't find any high quality, all natural, low-carbohydrate, good tasting proteins powders on the market. Our protein is sugar free, MSG free, chemical free and we do not have gluten in our ingredients.

Does your whey protein contain the hormones rBGH or BST?
NO! Our whey is produced from original herds of cows that are not given recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) or bovine somatotropin.

How is your whey isolate protein powder created?
Whey protein isolate, which is used exclusively in Jay Robb Whey Protein, is created by cross-flow microfiltering liquid whey through a special ceramic membrane to create the highest grade of whey protein possible. There is NO heat used during the cold-filter processing of our whey protein formula. (This special process DOES NOT DENATURE the protein.) This unique process also yields a whey protein isolate that is much higher in protein than a whey protein concentrate and is also rich in immunoglobulins, alpha-lactalbumin, and beta-lactoalbumin and other immune boosting factors.

Jay Robb Whey Protein is made from the finest natural ingredients available to deliver 25 grams of first-class protein, 0-fat, 0-cholesterol, 0-sugars, and only 1 gram of carbohydrate per 30-gram serving. Only microfiltered whey protein isolate is used as the protein source, and this material comes from farm-raised, pasture-grazed, grass-fed cows not treated with the synthetic bovine growth hormone rBGH.

Unique natural flavors and the herb stevia are used to create a flavoring system that is palate pleasing and has made Jay Robb Whey Protein famous across the nation. Their tagline, “The Best-Tasting Protein on the Planet,” says it all. Jay Robb Whey Protein contains NO artificial flavors, artificial colors, aspartame, acesulfame-K, or sucralose. This product is also instantized so that it mixes easily with the turn of a spoon. Jay Robb offers his Whey Protein in five outrageously delicious flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Pina Colada, and Tropical Dreamsicle.

Is your protein powder denatured in the process of making it?
No.

Is your whey protein organic?
We are guaranteed by our supplier in writing that the whey comes from cows not treated with rBGH. The product is not certified organic due to limited supply of organic whey protein raw material at this time. We hope this will change in the future as the demand for our product grows.

Natural Flavors and Unflavored Jay Robb Protein Powder

Are the 'natural flavors' specifically listed on the label of your flavored protein powders 100% unaltered and natural?
Our flavors are naturally derived, and the flavors are uniquely blended with other key natural ingredients (that is a proprietary process).

If you are sensitive to flavors (some people are sensitive to natural vanilla but not cocoa, etc.) then I suggest you try our unflavored egg white protein, or our unflavored whey protein

Pertaining to your natural flavoring, what do you use to make your chocolate whey/egg protein?
The chocolate flavor in our protein is created from a cocoa extract. There is no carob in our products.

Why are the scoopers for the whey vanilla and the whey unflavored different sizes?
The fluffiness of a product determines the scoop size. The fluffier the product, the larger the scoop needed to deliver one ounce. A denser material (protein powder) will thus require a smaller scoop to deliver the same one ounce serving.

I see that you carry several types of protein powder. What is the difference between your egg white protein and your whey protein?
We carry several types of protein powders, with whey protein and egg white protein ranking at the top of our list. We have several reasons for carrying both. Some individuals are sensitive or allergic to dairy products, and the egg white protein, which is dairy and lactose free would be more suitable for them. Some individuals don't consume egg products because of spiritual beliefs, or food allergies, so the whey might be the best choice for them.   I personally go back and forth between the two for variety.

Does the Jay Robb Whey protein powder have enzymes in it to break down the protein?
None of our protein formulas are fully predigested. A portion of the protein contained in our whey formula is predigested. Our whey is our only formula that contains any predigested protein. I am not a believer in fully digesting a protein powder because it can absorb too quickly causing an amino acid rush similar to a sugar rush. Protein and carbohydrate should break down slowly over time during natural digestion for best usability by the body.

How much sodium is in your Whey Protein?
Each serving of our whey is 30 grams and contains 62mg of sodium. 28.3 grams equals 28,300mg divided by 62 equals .02%. Our unflavored whey is approximately .04% sodium ( the extra natural sodium comes from lecithin which is in the product). The sodium in our whey is also naturally occurring and not sodium chloride (table salt). Sodium that is naturally occurring in foods is an essential mineral and needs to be present to balance out potassium and the water table of the body. Sodium is also needed to create hydrochloric acid and buffer the acid by-products of digestion and metabolism.

Many companies sell casein protein and claim that the body absorbs it slower than whey. They state that it is good to take through out the day and especially at night. Is that just marketing?  Why is Jay against it?
The dictionary states: "Casein is a white, tasteless, odorless, milk and cheese protein that is used to make plastics, adhesives, paints, and foods."

Casein is a very cheap protein used by companies to offer pliability to protein bars, and to save money on the production of protein powders and other high protein products. Casein is also very, very allergenic to many individuals and can be quite difficult to digest. Casein makes my stomach hurt when I consume it.

Casein can absorb slower than whey, but whey is not a fast absorbing protein to begin with, so what is the point. Also, if you wish for a slower absorbing protein just eat it with more fat and it will break down much slower in the body and absorb over longer periods of time. This is why I usually recommend a fat or oil be added to a protein drink (see The Fat Burning Diet).

I hope this answers your questions. In summary, casein is a cheap protein that makes companies a larger profit margin. We would never compromise quality to increase our bottom line...

What you can tell me about the safety of using Stevia?
Stevia was approved for sale in America in 1996 as a dietary supplement and we have been using stevia in our whey protein ever since then. In fact, we were the world’s first supplement company to use stevia in a protein powder formula. We can’t classify it as a sweetener because it is classed by the FDA as a dietary supplement. This status may soon be changing as I have seen press releases indicating that it will soon be used in a wide variety of food-based products.

The use of stevia in our protein is fully approved by the FDA. To know more about stevia there is a great book out entitled, “The Stevia Story” by Linda and Bill Bonvie and Donna Gates.

What's the difference between Aspartame (nutrasweet) and Aspartamine (the amino acid naturally occurring in your protein powder)?
Aspartame and aspartamine (more commonly known as asparagine) are not the same. Aspartame is the result of mixing in a laboratory the amino acids aspartamine and phenylalanine. In most complete proteins, aspartamine is one of the naturally occurring amino acids and has nothing to do with the artificial sweetener aspartame.

Egg Protein Q & A

Is Jay Robb egg protein from chickens given growth hormones?
Our chickens are not given growth hormones.

Is Jay Robb egg protein from free-range chickens?
Our chickens are not free range but are not kept in chicken batteries (small coups) either. They are allowed to roam in large pens.

Is Jay Robb egg protein from chickens not given antibiotics?
Our chickens are not routinely given antibiotics (but may be given antibiotics if absolutely needed).

Does the Jay Robb Egg and Whey protein powder have enzymes in it to break down the protein?
None of our protein formulas are fully predigested. A portion of the protein contained in our whey formula is predigested. Our whey is our only formula that contains any predigested protein. I am not a believer in fully digesting a protein powder because it can absorb too quickly causing an amino acid rush similar to a sugar rush. Protein and carbohydrate should break down slowly over time during natural digestion for best usability by the body.

Does your egg white protein have any vitamin D in it, and how much?
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and egg whites are fat-free, therefore it contains no vitamin D. All the vitamin D content in eggs is found in the yolk.

The amino acids phenylalanine and aspartic acid are on your nutrition facts panel. Aren't these in the sweetener Aspartame?
Phenylalanine and aspartic acid are naturally occurring amino acids in egg whites. Phenylalanine and aspartic acid are two of the three main ingredients in aspartame. Aspartame is simply an unnatural concentrated free-form combination of those two amino acids created to be used as an artificial sweetener. In our egg white protein the amount of those two amino acids is balanced and not concentrated because the product is primarily derived from egg whites.

You may use our product with the same peace of mind as you would have if you were consuming an egg white omelet at your favorite restaurant.

Other than the delicious taste and the other obvious benefits listed on the container, is there any benefit to the body in using your protein powder as a health supplement versus getting protein from animal meat?
Besides tasting good...actually the BEST...our protein powder scores big for the following reasons:

  1. Convenient (toss into water or milk and you have an instant protein drink)
  2. Lower in calories than any meat that delivers the same amount of solid protein. (This is because our protein is fat-free.)
  3. Our protein can be used in a variety of ways. Meat can't be stirred into yogurt to make a delicious, high-protein pudding, but our protein powders can. You can also bake with it and add it to pancakes or muffins for a special taste treat.
  4. Our protein contains no saturated fat, as compared to most meats.
  5. Our protein powders are usually much easier to digest than meats, due to no fat in our product plus because of the balance of amino acids.
  6. The product is vegetarian, making is suitable for those who choose to not eat meat.
  7. Whey protein has been clinically shown to boost the immune system due to its unique make-up.
  8. I couldn't imagine a day without a Jay Robb protein drink!

I see that you do not use glycerin in your bars or products. What is glycerin?

Glycerin, also known as glycerol, is a colorless, odorless, syrupy, sweet liquid, C3H8O3, usually obtained by the saponification (converting a fat into soap by treating it with an alkali) of natural fats and oils. Glycerin is used for sweetening and preserving food, in the manufacture of cosmetics, perfumes, inks, and certain glues and cements. Glycerin is also used as a solvent, in automobile antifreeze, and in medicine in suppositories and skin emollients.

Are your protein powders and products gluten-free? What's the difference between "gluten-free" and no gluten on a product label?

In order for a product to be labeled gluten-free, it must be manufactured in a facility that produces only gluten-free products and products that do not contain wheat or gluten. Because none of our products are made with ingredients containing gluten, our label reads, “no gluten.”

Our manufacturer is GMP-certified and follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to segregate ingredients on shared equipment and within the facility. This includes cleaning the lines between all production runs and stringent scheduling of product runs to avoid cross-contamination. A GMP-certified manufacturer is one that has exceeded the specific standards laid out by the United States Food and Drug Administration. GMP certification ensures that supplements and vitamins are manufactured safely, with the highest quality production from a state-of-the-art facility.

Sprouted Brown Rice Protein

Q: Is your sprouted brown rice protein heated or is it raw?

A: All protein powder manufactured and sold in the USA must be pasteurized by law.  Our sprouted brown rice protein powder is never heated above 125 degrees Fahrenheit during the pasteurization process.

Scoop Size

Q: Your scooper is fairly tall and has a line in the middle.  Is one serving measured at the line in the middle or should it be level with the top of the scoop?  How many tablespoons is one full scoop equivalent to?

A: One serving (30 g by weight) is equal to one level scoop measured to the top of the scoop.  Please ignore the line in the middle of the scoop.   If you use a tablespoon measure it is equivalent to 4 measured tablespoons.

Pre-Contest Bodybuilding Q & A

Q: I have been following the fat burning diet and am so pleased with the results. I will be competing in an NGA show on June 15 in Florida and have never felt so good at this time before a show the entire time I have been competing. I am 44 years old. I have a question about what to bring for meals the day of the show. You mention light meals the day of the show. Can you give me some suggestions as to what to bring the day of and when to eat? Thanks, Wally

A: Hi Wally!
Carb load heavy at 1 1/2 days out. This means you start carb loading with starches and sweet fruits on Thursday before a Saturday event. Then on Saturday, keep your carbs up and your protein moderate. 1 to 2 pieces of fresh fruit for breakfast is good, then lean protein, steamed vegetables and an apple or an orange for a mid morning small meal. Then small amounts of protein and an apple eaten every few hours will stabilize you all day and all evening long and keep you from going flat. For the evening show, try eating a yam and a banana about an hour before the show for an extra pump. I hope this helps. Don't starve yourself, and don't dehydrate.

Q: I just won the Over-all Mr. Iowa whole following your Fat Burning Diet.....I am 22 weeks out from the NANBF NATURAL MR.USA. I am following your Bulking Diet but I train at 6:00am in the Morning, so would I do my Carb-Load meal in the Morning right after my workout instead of the afternoon? Also- I go back and forth between your Liver tablets and Beverly Internationals. Yours are half price is yours comparable to theirs? Also, how about your Amino Acids compared to their MASS Aminos? DO I need to take 4-6 of each 6 times a day with each meal like Beverly Professes?
It is not in your Fat Burning Diet this way...
Thanks Jason

A: Hi Jason!
Congratulations on your recent victory at the Mr. Iowa contest! If you have photos please send them to us, along with a signed letter that we may use them, and we will place your photos on our web site in the bodybuilding section and give you some recognition. Our liver tabs are awesome, at 1500 mg per tab and not cut with yeast. I have used desiccated liver since the mid 70s with excellent results. For amino acids, I don't feel it is worth paying the extra price for a bodybuilder. You can get plenty of aminos from our Whey Protein or Egg White protein without using Amino Acids, so save your money and invest in the liver and our whey or egg protein. Use the carb loading meal in the evening because it will help you unwind from the day. If you take it in the morning, you might feel like relaxing. You are welcome to try it at both times and then you decide. It's purpose is to offer an insulin surge to replenish glycogen and offer an anabolic lift.

Q: Dear Mr. Robb, I just finished your book (in one day!!) I truly feel that this book is going to change my life and my outlook on bodybuilding. I feel that this book is going to help me get to a point where I can finally see past the BS that plagues bodybuilding. I am a bit confused on one subject though: I am finishing a bulking phase that I have been on since July, and I am going to start getting ripped in April to get ready for a contest in August. My question is, do I do the ripping phase with the carb depletion/carb loading diet all the way through April to August? I weigh 270 lbs, at a height of 6 2 , and have a approximately 18-20% bodyfat (eek!). This is my first contest, and although I probably won't win first prize, I really just want to do everything right. - Christopher

A: Hi Christopher!
Yes, you can do the carb-loading/depletion from April to August. You should be at 10% bodyfat 10 weeks out for any show...then dial in from there as outlined. At 270 lb. and 20% bodyfat, you are 216 lb. lean weight, which shows you have a lot of lean body mass. According to those numbers you will weigh approximately 227 lb. on the day of the show at 5% bodyfat. Read over that section again in my book until you get familiar and comfortable with it.
God bless and all the best to your success...

Q: Why do you recommend not to use protein powders and protein bars a week before show time?

A: Unless you are using our protein powder and products, I never let a client/competitor use them just prior to a contest because they may contain ingredients that could cause a negative reaction to the person and keep them from getting "sharp" on the final days of contest preparation. Many products on the market contain fructose, aspartame, glucose polymers, casein, calcium caseinate, etc., etc. that could be a problem for many people. I just don't leave anything to chance.

Q: I'm writing because I have a question about using mozzarella cheese in most of your recipes. Is it ok for me to use it even thought I'm getting ready for a competition? I ask because in your food list you don't break it down like the rest of the food.

A: Mozzarella cheese is OK when preparing for a contest, but drop it out of your diet about a week from show time. Cheese is high in sodium, which is fine to eat until a few days before you step on stage.

Q: First of all, thank you for your e-newsletter. I really like this most recent issue. Very informative!!! I wish your radio show was carried in the St. Louis, Missouri region. My question, I am a female body builder and competed in my first contest in the Figure category late last summer. For my first competition, I didn't do too bad, 6th out of 17 but am hoping to do better in the future. (I am 5'4", and am 49 years old). Since then upon the advice of my trainer/nutritionist, I have been working to gain weight and muscle. When I started out for the last contest, I started at 115 Lbs. and by contest day I weighed about 102 - 103 Lbs. The gym I go to carries your products so I have been using your whey protein (and by the way, I love it!). I am now at 121 Lbs. I have a small frame and have always had trouble gaining muscle. I have to admit I have seen some changes in body since I started on this program but know I could do better. Most articles I have read pertain mostly to male body builders and I am finding out that many of the supplements they take, may not be recommended for women. I was looking up some of your products on your website and noticed 3 of them and wanted to know if these would be alright for me to take. They are "rHGH", "Muscle Maker", and hGH Nutrition".
Thank you for your time
Pam

A: Hi Pam!
Thank you for your kind e-mail and congratulations on your good placing at your last show. For you, the HGH Nutrition will be fine. Don't use other products for testosterone boosting...which is effective at helping a person gain muscle but is not designed for women and their hormone balance. Instead utilize the HGH product , and my anabolic bodybuilding diet principles of carb-depleting one day then carb-loading the next. God bless and all the best to your continued success...

Q: Jay, I have all of your books, and they have helped me get into the best shape of my life for my upcoming bodybuilding contest. The question is, during my 2 days of carb-loading the days before the show, do I still count calories as I have been during the whole dieting phase, or should I eat as I desire, I am unsure of this, because it is not specified in any of your books, otherwise. Your books have made ALL the difference to me. I went from 180 lbs. at 12% body fat to 168 lbs at 4% in about 6 weeks. Thanks again. I also enjoy your recipe of the week. You have just done so much for natural bodybuilders trying to maintain size and energy while dieting.
Thanks again,
Frank

A: Hi Frank! Thank you for your nice comments and I am thrilled that the Fat Burning Diet has gotten you in contest condition. For carb-loading, you can keep the calories the same but it is not mandatory that you count calories...just eat until you are full of carbs and satisfied. Honestly, it almost always works out that you eat about the same calories anyway. Carb-loading usually requires that you eat about 250 to 300 grams of carbs (or more) each day, depending on your size and energy needs. If you want to utilize the latest Fat Burning Diet principles in your training I suggest you take a look at my Fat Burning Diet book. All the best Frank and may God bless you with continued success...

Q: My name is Abbie and I am an obstacle course competitor . I will be competing in both Women's Tri-Fitness and Galaxy Nova competitions in 8 weeks. They are obstacle course events (Navy Seal type training) plus a swimsuit round--that attract more than a thousand competitors a year and are gaining interest by the general public. Last year when I placed 7th at Galaxy Masters division (I'm 46) I fueled with a 4 day carb/protein grams ratio cycle: Moderate Carbs (190g/carb;125g/pro); 2 days of Low carbs (65g/carb;195g/pro) and a day of High Carbs (260g/carb;125 pro) always with 35 g's of fat. I could never quite get as lean as I needed to get into the top three in my division, I felt sluggish on the course, and had bad leg cramps and bloating throughout my training. My new coach has suggested a low, medium, high calorie diet with plenty of carbs in the morning. She says I need the carbs for energy. I've been trying this for two Weeks. The result? All I want to eat is chocolate ice cream and cookies, which is not me, I don't even like ice cream. Wrong--I hate the taste of them, always have. When I was young I naturally gravitated toward meat, nuts protein and fat. Still do. I'd rather have a burger pattie alone on a plate than a bowl of cereal any day. And I found I would get carb hangovers and extremely shaky hands from carbs. And if I don't eat every two hours I go insane.

A: Thank you for contacting us about your training issues. Cramping usually occurs when the body is dehydrated and low in magnesium, potassium, sodium and sometimes calcium. When training hard and sweating, it is a good idea to salt your foods with SEA SALT and include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to satisfy your potassium needs. As for your training, you are currently guessing and that can be frustrating. Please take a look at the New Fat Burning Diet book. God bless and best wishes for your competition.

Q: I've been following your program for years and have always trusted your
opinion. I have a couple of simple, direct questions to ask …Does the HGH supplement recommended on your web site offer the same types of benefits as the injectable type? Do you take the HGH supplement? If you do, what benefits, if any, do you personally experience?
- Vincent

A: Hi Vincent!
Yes, the results are very similar to the injectables, but we can't claim that. But we can claim all the results from our clinical studies on the product. It has been successfully shown to increase muscle mass, decrease fat, increase stamina, endurance, well-being and a whole host of other plusses. I have personally used the product, beginning about 5 years ago with excellent results. I have used it off and on (like most of our products) and notice improved sleep quality, more rapid fat burning, better health, better sense of well-being, and improved exercise recovery time. I have not ever had an anabolic effect that boosted muscle growth from using the product though. Your diet and training program can become the best anabolic formula if you use them correctly. Don't get caught up with all the ads in muscle magazines for the latest greatest product. Keep it simple and you will succeed.

Q: Jay, I want to know the best possible way to achieve more muscle in the shortest amount of time, while still maintaining a balanced body. With the enormous amount of info related to this topic I am literally fried!!! I seem to read different training ideas getting hooked, then reading something else and changing my mind. I am currently 191lbs. desperately wanting to add 30lbs. to my tall skinny frame. I've read about just doing the basics, one exercise per muscle group to put on muscle, while reading from a competitive bodybuilder, that you need to concentrate on more than one exercise, such as incline and decline for the chest, so you don't create an imbalanced body. Please help, Gary

A: Hi Gary!
In my opinion, most of what you read about bodybuilding is useless and a lot of hype. This is unfortunate but a reality. Bodybuilding is so easy and so basic, very few people want to tell you the truth. Train one body part per week, and eat a calorie rich diet that provides enough protein fat and carbohydrate to make your body grow. Honestly, it is hard for most people to figure out how much food to consume to grow. I suggest you take a look at my all New Fat Burning Diet book. Many questions are answered there.

When I Download The eBook, Why Do I See A Blank Screen?
There could be several reasons such as:

  • Dialup Connection. If you connect to the Internet using a dialup connection it takes awhile for the eBook to download. The time depends on how fast your dialup connection is. The eBook is a 50-page PDF file and you will see a blank screen until the Acrobat application launches and displays the file. On a 48.0 kbps connection it may take up to four minutes for the file to fully download and display.

  • Acrobat Reader. The eBook requires Acrobat Reader version 5.0 or higher.

Acrobat Reader software from Adobe. Free upgrade!

  • High Security Settings. Your browser's security settings may be set at a very high level or managed by a third-party software application such as Norton Internet Security (or similar application) that is preventing the eBook from downloading or displaying. For example, you may see a message with a warning that says the file may contain a virus. You setting most likely provides that warning for all downloads. Our file does not contain a virus so it is okay to go ahead and download the eBook.

  • If you would like assistance, please email us at info@jayrobb.com along with your order number and we will be glad to email a copy of the eBook to you.
