Are the 'natural flavors' specifically listed on the label of your flavored protein powders 100% unaltered and natural?
Our flavors are naturally derived, and the flavors are uniquely blended with other key natural ingredients (that is a proprietary process). If you are sensitive to flavors (some people are sensitive to natural vanilla but not cocoa, etc.) then I suggest you try our unflavored egg white protein, or our unflavored whey protein.
Pertaining to your natural flavoring, what do you use to make your chocolate whey/egg protein?
The chocolate flavor in our protein is created from a cocoa extract. There is no carob in our products.
Why are the scoopers for the whey vanilla and the whey unflavored different sizes?
The fluffiness of a product determines the scoop size. The fluffier the product, the larger the scoop needed to deliver one ounce. A denser material (protein powder) will thus require a smaller scoop to deliver the same one ounce serving.
I see that you carry several types of protein powder. What is the difference between your egg white protein and your whey protein?
We carry several types of protein powders, with whey protein and egg white protein ranking at the top of our list. We have several reasons for carrying both. Some individuals are sensitive or allergic to dairy products, and the egg white protein, which is dairy and lactose free would be more suitable for them. Some individuals don't consume egg products because of spiritual beliefs, or food allergies, so the whey might be the best choice for them. I personally use our Whey Protein.
Does the Jay Robb Whey protein powder have enzymes in it to break down the protein?
None of our protein formulas are fully predigested. A portion of the protein contained in our whey formula is predigested. Our whey is our only formula that contains any predigested protein. I am not a believer in fully digesting a protein powder because it can absorb too quickly causing an amino acid rush similar to a sugar rush. Protein and carbohydrate should break down slowly over time during natural digestion for best usability by the body.
How much sodium is in your Whey Protein?
Each serving of our whey is 30 grams and contains 150mg of sodium. The sodium in our whey is naturally occurring and not sodium chloride (table salt). Sodium that is naturally occurring in foods is an essential mineral and needs to be present to balance out potassium and the water table of the body. Sodium is also needed to create hydrochloric acid and buffer the acid by-products of digestion and metabolism.
Many companies sell casein protein and claim that the body absorbs it slower than whey. They state that it is good to take throughout the day and especially at night. Is that just marketing? Why is Jay against it?
The dictionary states: "Casein is a white, tasteless, odorless, milk and cheese protein that is used to make plastics, adhesives, paints, and foods." Casein is a very cheap protein used by companies to offer pliability to protein bars, and to save money on the production of protein powders and other high protein products. Casein is also very, very allergenic to many individuals and can be quite difficult to digest. Casein makes my stomach hurt when I consume it.
Casein can absorb slower than whey, but whey is not a fast absorbing protein to begin with, so what is the point. Also, if you wish for a slower absorbing protein just eat it with more fat and it will break down much slower in the body and absorb over longer periods of time. This is why I usually recommend a fat or oil be added to a protein drink.
In summary, casein is a cheap protein that makes companies a larger profit margin. We would never compromise quality to increase our bottom line..
Is your protein powder pasteurized?
Our Jay Robb Whey Protein powder comes from milk that is flash pasteurized for approximately 15 seconds at 72° C (161° F). This causes very little denaturing of the raw materials. No further heat is applied at any other phase of creating our delicious whey protein powders.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL whey protein powders sold in the United States are from milk that is pasteurized as stated above or from milk heated to 145° F for 30 minutes. Many companies are now stating that their whey is “special” or unique in regard to heating and pasteurizing, but the truth remains that ALL whey proteins sold in America are from pasteurized milk.
Jay Robb Egg White protein powder is also flash pasteurized at the lowest temperature allowable by law at 134 degrees Fahrenheit for just 3 1/2 minutes

Since September I have dropped 50 pounds and have made significant strength gains in the gym. Hey Jay! I love your Whey Protein Powder (especially the chocolate one). It is great after a workout, before a workout and sometimes even as a meal replacement. I am a graduate student and it really gives some great energy and tastes good too. I like to mix 1 scoop with about 6 to 8 ounces of chocolate soy milk (usually from Silk) and then about an ounce or 2 of water. Shake it up and your good to go. :) It took me a while to find a protein powder that was natural and tasted good. Thanks for such a great product. :)

Although more expensive than most, this is hands-down the best protein powder I've ever tasted! And, it has a short ingredients list (translation: no fillers or artificial sweeteners). I love that it is sweetened with stevia. The powder mixes easily with a spoon, although small lumps stay behind. I prefer to use a small shaker bottle or blender - it blends quickly and leaves no lumps this way. And did I mention that this tastes great?!? Seriously. Mix it with water, and you have a creamy, sweet treat that you'd swear was bad for you. It's even better blended with milk (I use almond milk), yogurt, or in a smoothie. I've tried both the vanilla and chocolate flavors, and I highly recommend both!

First off, if you don't care about the quality or your health, don't bother spending the extra money on this product. Not all whey proteins are created equal, and this one has the added bonus of not containing rBGH or any hormones used to induce cow's milk quantity. The cows are free of impurities, and grass fed. Equally as important is the lack of artificial flavors or refined sweeteners. Jay Robb uses sweeteners derived from plant sources that don't spike blood sugar the way sugar or cane juice does, and has no health side effects like the artificial sweeteners.
And what's more, it tastes great! Granted, I haven't tried it on its own, I always mix it in to a smoothie. I use 6 ice cubes, 1 banana, 1 scoop powder, 2 large T peanut butter and vanilla rice milk (enough to make the right consistency.) And it's awesome! I've tried it with other powders and I can taste the texture and often a chalky flavor. This is by far the best. I've used the vanilla powder in a similar recipe with frozen fruit instead of peanut butter. I can't get enough! I'm not a sugar user though, so I could see how someone could think it's not sweet enough as it's not overpowering. I add honey when I want more of a dessert-like drink.

Being a weight loss patient, I have to have a good protein source. I've tried so many protein drinks and honestly thought I was doomed to have to "grin and bear it." I love this product. It mixes very well and has a very good taste. I bought this because it does not have artificial sweetener in it, but uses stevia. I have serious reactions to artificial sweeteners which cause memory loss for me. I am chemical sensitive, which is probably why I react so severely to artificial sweeteners. I am also hypoglycemic and this helps stabilize by blood sugar. I have been using this for a couple of weeks as a breakfast substitute, mixing it with low fat milk and a banana and eating a healthy lunch and dinner. I have been losing about two pounds a week, which is what I want. This drink keeps me satisfied until lunch and I have not been doing any mid-morning snacking. I don't seem to be craving sweets throughout the day, which has always been a problem for me. I have tried the Pina Colada flavor which is wonderful.

I've searched high and low for a quality protein drink that does not have Aspartame or Sucralose anywhere in the ingredients. Jay Rob's is just that, and better.
After reading the other reviews on Amazon, I was skeptical at first. How different can this really be from other protein drinks on the market? But I decided to give it a chance, and I am very, very happy with my decision. You know the disgusting aftertaste that sucralose and aspartame ridden products leave in your mouth? None of that here. Mix in some berries and peanut butter with ice and honey, and you have in my opinion, the best protein drink on the market.

This is by far the best protein powder on the market. My wife & I used this product in connection with the Eades Diet which is a low carb/low sugar plan. My wife lost 18 pounds and I lost 6 pounds in 4 weeks. I was already in pretty good shape so I had less to lose. This protein powder has very low carbs and sugar content so it was perfect for our diet. I have been making protein powder smoothies for my lunch for about 12 years and the Jay Robb is by far the best I've tried. Little more expensive but cost is definitely worth it.

I make the Jamocha shake every morning for breakfast that is in the Jorge Cruise Belly Fat Cure book (page 95) The Belly Fat Cure: Discover the New Carb Swap System and Lose 4 to 9 lbs. Every Week. I use a shot of whipped cream instead of the heavy cream since I usually have that on hand for my son's pancakes. It's great. I feel like I am really drinking the Arby's Jamocha shake.
I like that Jay Robb uses stevia to sweeten the powder and not the Splenda we see everywhere.

Hi. I heard about whey-based protein powder for the first time in my liver transplant support group several years ago. For those of us with very limited liver function, animal protein is difficult to process.
For years my albumin level had been far below normal range, so it was important to supplement with some kind of protein.
Just by chance, I picked up Jay Robb whey-based protein powder at a natural food store, and within 3 months of taking it twice a day, I had increased my albumin count by 2! I was amazed because nothing I had tried yet had managed to budge it at all!
