Jay Robb's Health-eLiving Newsletter

Happy holidays, everyone!

My cousin went to the doctor last week and his doctor said, "I have good news and bad news." "Okay, Doc," my cousin said, "what's the good news?" The doctor said, "You have 24 hours to live." My cousin then said, "If that's the good news, what's the bad news?" The doctor replied, "I forgot to tell you yesterday."

I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas....

This holiday season, you should think lean and green. As I said in last month's e-newsletter, most Americans gain an average of seven pounds during the holiday season, but I estimate that they also gain at least seven pounds in useless gifts. To sidestep weight gain, I strongly encourage you to follow my Fat Burning Diet principles. To avoid giving gifts that may eventually end up in our landfills, I suggest you give gifts that are healthy and eco-friendly.
Insist on serving and eating natural foods during this entire holiday season.

To help control your calorie intake, try consuming a protein shake for breakfast and/or lunch instead of a bowl of cold cereal or a fast food meal. While this is a highly biased suggestion, I encourage you to give a Jay Robb Gift Basket to everyone you know (and put one on your wish list also). Not only will you be offering something that can change a person's life, but you will be making a healthy statement that will help spread the word about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Together we can make a difference. Health is precious. Making healthy choices and giving healthy gifts will allow this holiday season to be lean and green for yourself and the ones you care about.

God bless you!

Jay

SEASON'S GREENINGS! Have a lean, green holiday season

Every holiday season, billions of cards and millions of trees go to waste in the United States. Will yours be among them? This year, many individuals and companies have chosen to protect the environment by "going green." In 2008, Jay Robb Enterprises began selling our protein powders in environmentally friendlier bags that are recyclable and use 84 percent less plastic than our previous containers, to reduce environmental impact.

Hopefully, you already do your part to help the environment. You already recycle, and you instinctively turn the lights off when you leave a room. But is there any way you can make the holiday season an eco-friendly time? Yes, there is! Enjoy an environmentally friendlier holiday season this year by saving energy and doing your best to preserve our precious natural resources!

To have an environmentally friendlier holiday, you can:
  • Use LED lights. Save eighty to ninety percent more energy by using LED lights, instead of the traditional incandescent Christmas lights you probably string up around your home each year. You can find LED Christmas lights at the store. As an added bonus, LED lights don't get as warm, so they are safer and more energy efficient!

  • Go paper free. Instead of contributing to the backlog of mail that ties up US postal workers and destroys millions of trees worth of paper every year, take advantage of current technology to send your holiday greetings to family and friends. Try posting your annual holiday newsletter on a blogging website, or e-mailing a picture slideshow of your year to the ones you love.

  • Wrap presents creatively. Try wrapping your presents with something more creative than wrapping paper, which wastes valuable natural resources and increases your carbon footprint. Instead of going the traditional route, try using a beautiful scarf to wrap your gift--or use decorated paper bags or posters.

  • Choose your tree. Experts are divided on whether you should choose a real tree or a fake tree. Artificial trees are petroleum based, which means they are not biodegradable, but they last for much longer than an actual tree, and make less of a mess. Real trees can be used as mulch, and most Christmas tree farms replant their trees every few years. Whether you choose a real tree or an artificial tree, consider the environmental impact your choice will have!

NATURAL HOLIDAY GIFTS: Give the lasting gift of health!

Don't stop being health conscious with your holiday decorating! This year, do your part to help the environment and the people you love. Choose gifts that will add health benefits to your family and friends all year long, instead of giving things that are not biodegradable, recyclable, or environmentally-friendly.

If you want to give a valuable gift that continues to give all year long, consider this fun fact: interest in health and fitness always increases as the holiday season draws to a close. Think "green" before you decide on what to give your family and friends, and choose presents that will be beneficial, unique, natural, and environmentally friendly!

Consider these natural items to give as gifts:

  • Jay Robb products. I know it's a shameless plug, but Jay Robb products are truly excellent natural products that can improve physical and spiritual health! Give a health-inspiring, all-natural, eco-friendly Jay Robb gift basket, which includes diet books, protein bars, and protein powder in an eco-friendly plastic bag! Check out the What's New section of this eNewsletter or visit www.JayRobb.com to order.

  • Gift cards to state parks. The best gift for your favorite outdoorsman might be a simple one: a gift certificate to an outdoor park or state park. Many state parks have certificates available that can be redeemed for camping spaces or park access. This gift would be a perfect way to blend environmental consciousness with a healthy, natural way to have fun!

  • Gym memberships. After the holidays, millions of people join gyms in hopes of getting in the best shape of their lives. If you know someone who would appreciate a new gym membership (be careful that you don't accidentally insult someone!), this could be a creative, health-promoting gift that keeps giving all year 'round! Another get-fit option is to present someone special with an attractive, hand-made gift certificate redeemable for enrollment in a health class of their choice. Yoga, spinning, and pilates are just a few popular health class options.

  • Presents made of recyclable materials. Plenty of options are available if you want to give a gift made from recycled material. From journals made out of recycled paper to tote bags made of recycled cloth to Christmas tree ornaments made of recycled aluminum, you can give unique, natural gifts and make an earth-friendly statement at the same time!

  • Contributions to charities. For philanthropic friends or family members, consider making a donation to a charity that lines up with their interests! Be careful to choose good, reputable charities, but there are many options to choose from, such as cancer research programs, child abuse prevention programs, literacy programs, and civil rights advocacy charities. These gifts are generous and fit in perfectly with the holiday spirit, and also have no environmental impact!

Q & A With Jay

Discover How to Eat During the Holidays Without Gaining Weight!

Q: Hi Jay,
I am in my fifties. I have not trained for the past 7 years. There is so much information out there...where do I start again? I did Body for Life in my mid forties with good results, but lost interest / burned out. Can you help me get refocused and start again? Thank you!

A:
Great to hear from you and glad you are ready to get restarted and in the best shape of your life! I suggest you get your diet cleaned up immediately: Start with my Fruit Flush, then go right into my Fat Burning Diet.

For exercise, join a gym and get with a trainer to get on a good program that you can follow at least 3 days per week. You may also want to get my book, 25 Fitness Secrets, to give you some insights on training and good health.

God bless you and please stay in touch!
