A Healthy Shift for Liquid
Drug Peddlers?
According to press releases and articles in various
newspapers, America's largest and most popular coffee shop
chain will now be offering milk that is from cows not
treated with rBGH. Wow. This coffee house is making the same
move the Jay Robb Corporation made some 12 years ago in
1996. We applaud this coffee giant for making this move. And
if that is not enough good news from this mega-popular java
joint, it was recently reported that they will also be
offering five new healthy food items for breakfast. I also
commend them for this.
While I wholeheartedly applaud this coffee company for
making some healthy moves, I am not in support of any
company that promotes and sells addictive, over-the-counter
drugs to kids and adults... even if they also offer a few
healthy items as a camouflage. |
|
Coffee contains the highly-addictive drug caffeine. We are warned daily of the dangers
of drinking too much coffee because it is addictive, yet for
some reason, Americans don't seem to mind the fact that
coffee is blatantly sold to young children at various coffee
houses across America.
I assume some of these coffee shops are now experiencing
lower sales (and are currently closing many of their stores)
as Americans are turning to healthier alternatives. To
counter the loss of income, these "drug peddlers" are now
trying to lure in more bucks by selling healthy foods. But
selling healthy foods is incongruent with the concept of
running a coffee business! Coffee shops sell liquid drugs to
as many people as possible to get them "hooked" so they must
return again and again. In my mind, this is similar to
tobacco companies giving free cigarettes to servicemen,
fully knowing they can and will become addicted and start
buying cigarettes to feed their smoking habit.
The Jay Robb Corporation sells protein powders, health
books, and nutritional products-none of which are addictive.
Our customers return because they feel better naturally, not
because they feel better artificially and must return for
their "fix." Businesses in America need to take a stand and
stop selling any items that are harmful or addictive. It is
sad, but the top advertisers for sporting events are beer
manufacturers. What does alcohol have to do with sports? How
many drunks are on the field playing sports? Beer
manufacturers support sports because you can watch other men
and women compete while getting intoxicated (and while
intoxicated you can live vicariously through your favorite
sports hero or team). Beer contains the drug alcohol, and
there are over 18,000,000 alcoholics in America.
Should drug peddlers entice their customers with healthier
choices? Will a bran muffin or an apple offset the fact that
coffee is a highly addictive beverage? It's a start, but a
better move would be to have a protein shake made with Jay
Robb Protein (instead a cup of coffee) in the first place.

JayTip #1
Sleep Better at Night!
|
 |
Over sixty million adults in the United
States are afflicted with some form of insomnia, according
to the National Institutes of Health. Insomnia, the
inability to sleep well (severe insomniacs can go days
without sleeping), affects most people at least once in
their lives, and is often due to mental, physical, or
emotional stress. If you are female, elderly, stressed,
and/or have a history of depression, you are more likely to
suffer from insomnia. Insomnia can harm your health,
make you stressed, and hinder your performance at work,
among other things. Are you one of the millions of Americans
who suffers from insomnia? If you have trouble getting to
sleep at night or tend to wake up repeatedly when you should
be sleeping, here's help! |
To get more rest at
night try to:
- Relax: Do you worry about your
finances? Do you have anxiety attacks? Are you
concerned about the future? Worrying about things is no
way to live! The main reason that people have trouble
sleeping is their inability to release the stress they
accumulate throughout the day. When you can relax, you
will be able to begin sleeping more soundly. Relax by
listening to soft music or ambient nature noises as you
fall asleep. Use yoga, meditation, and prayer to help
you release your cares. Other options: sunbathe daily
and practice deep breathing for a more relaxed approach
to life.
- TIP! For more tips on how to
relax and find peace, see my books,
Be Still
and
Be
Still Be Slim. They are chock-full of
suggestions to make your life more relaxed and focused.
- Decaffeinate: Caffeine is
another way that you may be sabotaging your own sleep.
Coffee, soda, and popular energy drinks are all laced
with caffeine, which stays in your system much longer
than you probably think. Caffeine makes it difficult for
you to sleep, even if you are not aware of caffeine
making you "jittery"-it can cause your adrenal glands to
stop functioning properly. Caffeine only increases the
amount of stress on your body, making it that much more
difficult for you to function during the day and sleep
restfully at night.
- Eat properly: Eating healthy,
natural foods will help you balance the stress in your
life and give you a more restful sleep. It is always
best to eat foods that are good for you, but it is
especially important in the evening, since that time is
closer to the time you go to sleep. Foods that are high
in added sugar, for instance, can make your mind jittery
and hyper, keeping you from a restful sleep at night.
Eat wholesome foods and your body will thank you!
- TIP! Did you know that the
foods you eat for dinner can have an influence on your
sleep? It's true! Read my
Fat Burning Diet Made Easy to
find out which foods can help you sleep better and when
you should eat them. You can even discover how eating
these foods can help you lose weight while you sleep!

JayTip #2
Which common sugar substitute could
kill you?
|
|
 |
If you knew that your food
was made of chemicals, would you be eager to put it in your
mouth? Did you know that you might be ill because of a
common sugar substitute that may be hiding in your kitchen
right now? Do you ever suffer unexplained headaches or other
seemingly unrelated medical symptoms? If so, you may be
suffering from sucralose poisoning.
Sucralose is an artificial, chemically-designed sweetener
that is used in place of sugar in many products that claim
to be "sugar-free" or "diet," since it is advertised and
sold as a zero-calorie sweetener. Sucralose is 600 times
sweeter than sugar and is created in a laboratory using a
significant amount of chlorine. Essentially, it is
chlorinated sugar.
|
Watch out for this
dangerous substance!
- Chlorine is toxic:
Far from being harmless, chlorine is an extremely toxic
biohazard-not something you want inside your body.
Chlorine is a known carcinogen that kills animals and
wildlife. Studies conducted in parts of Denmark where
water has a high content of chlorine show male sperm
counts down 50 percent. In Norway, babies born to women
who drank chlorinated (tap) water while pregnant had 14
percent more birth defects than those of women who drank
pure mountain water. i
Don't allow this toxic poison into your body! Forget
diet drinks and "no-sugar" foods that are full of
chlorine-laced sucralose. Even real sugar is better for
you than eating chlorine!
- Humans absorb
chlorine from sucralose: FDA tests showed up to 27
percent of sucralose being absorbed by the body, while
the Japanese Food Sanitation Council reports that number
as closer to 40 percent absorbed. And not only is
sucralose absorbed by the body, it stays in the body!
When a tiny bit of chlorine is left in your body each
time you drink a diet cola or eat sugar-free gum, untold
amounts of it accumulate in your body over the course of
your life. According the Sucralose Toxicity Information
Center, as much as 30 percent may be metabolized after
absorption and collect in the intestine, liver, and
kidneys. ii
- Sucralose can make
you fat: New research conducted by scientists at
Purdue University indicates that an artificial
"zero-calorie" sweetener is linked to weight gain. In
the study, ingesting sucralose was liked to a higher
caloric intake in general, while real sugar tended to
cause consumers to take in fewer total calories,
overall. iii Apparently,
the body believes that when you offer it something
sweet, more calories will follow. Since there are very
few calories in sucralose, you feel the need to eat more
when your body fails to receive the calories it is
expecting. iv Protect
yourself from this harmful carcinogen by passing on
foods labeled "diet" and "sugar-free." Instead, eat
foods that are naturally low in fat and sugar, or
sweeten your food with a healthy, natural sweetener.
- Read labels: If
you are interested in losing weight, staying fit, and
warding off the harmful effects of ingesting chlorinated
sugar, go on the offensive against hidden sucralose-start
reading labels, watching for sucralose in your drinks
and food. Instead of sucralose, try stevia.
Stevia
is an all-natural herb. It is not classified as a
sweetener by the FDA, but it does have a sweetening
effect when added to foods or drinks.
- TIP! For more
information and helpful hints on understanding and
avoiding sucralose,
read our
full-length article describing this toxic,
chemically-modified sweetener and its many dangers.

JayTip #3
Find New Motivation to Lose
Weight!
|
|
 |
Have you ever joined a gym and then struggled to attend? If you wish
you were more disciplined about sticking with an exercise routine,
you are not alone. The majority of individuals who buy gym
memberships or make resolutions to lose weight and get fit never
achieve their goals. In my years as a fitness expert, I have learned
that only about 15 percent of those who join a gym stick to an
exercise plan with any sort of regularity. If you find yourself
losing motivation to get fit, it's time to get motivated. |
|
Try some of these helpful hints
to keep your motivation high and your workout routine regular:
- Pick up a pen: If you
have trouble motivating yourself to stick to a routine, pick up
a pen and start to track your progress. It's easy to slip up
when you aren't forced to see your progress in black and white
at the end of every day. To give yourself a little extra
motivation, buy a small notebook or journal, keep it somewhere
handy, and keep track of when you exercise and what your game
plan for tomorrow will be. An additional bonus: if you stick
with your plan, looking over your accomplishments in a week or a
month will be a great feeling!
- Reward yourself: Use
rewards to keep yourself on track and to encourage future
progress! Don't burn yourself out trying to be perfect. Allow
one free meal per week when you eat anything you like for a
whole hour! After an entire week of sticking to your diet plan,
that one meal can encourage you enough to get through another
week! If you've been especially good about working out, you can
reward yourself with a small gift or other non-food treat to
celebrate your achievements!
- Start small: If you need to lose forty pounds, you
might be daunted just thinking about it. Trying to tackle a huge
goal all at one time can be frightening or discouraging.
Instead, make smaller goals of exercising every day for a week,
of losing one pound this week, or of watching your diet
carefully for one day. The secret is to keep making those
resolutions every day. If you can stick to focusing on one small
goal at a time, you will eventually reach your greater goal
without feeling discouraged along the way!
- Mix it up: Who says
working out has to be boring? Why not spice up your regular
routine in a playful way? Relearn how to hula hoop! Enjoy
playing tag or hide and seek with your kids. Go rock climbing
outdoors or get up on a trampoline and add some bounce to your
life! Have fun with it-getting exercise should be something you
look forward to, not something you dread.

 Why
do I crave sweets?
Q:
When I cut carbs on your diet plans, I realize that
my fat intake goes way up. Is it okay that I am
eating 50-60% of my calories at a meal in the form
of fat? I know it is healthy fat, but will this fat
make me fat?
A: Fat is essential to
the human diet. Protein is also essential. Fat also
does not create an insulin response. Protein usually
only elicits a very small insulin response. Insulin
is a fat-storing hormone that blocks your ability to
use fat for energy, which is why eating carbs too
frequently can cause your fat cells to swell. When
you limit carbs and load up on fat and protein, very
little insulin (if any) is produced and your body is
allowed to burn fat freely. Fat also can enhance
your hormone balance and provide many essential
and/or important nutrients you need to be healthy
and feel your best. Fat is also very satisfying and
will ward off hunger for many, many hours while
keeping your blood sugar levels stable. Don't worry
about the amount of fat you are eating. As long as
you keep your carbohydrate and caloric intake
moderate, you will get lean and healthy! |
