Beating The Battle Of The Bulge!

According to a Harris Poll released March 6, 2002, 80 percent of Americans over the age of 25 are overweight. And, perhaps even more startling, 33 percent are considered obese. The number of overweight and obese Americans has increased significantly over the years. In 1983, the number of overweight people totaled just 58 percent of the population over 25. Obesity has more than doubled from less than one-sixth of the population 18 years ago to one-third today.

America's weight problem has reached epidemic proportions. And to combat this problem, low-carb dieting is spreading across the nation like wildfire. I am thrilled to say the least. I have been professionally pushing for Americans to limit their intake of carbohydrate since 1990 and have known about the need to limit carbs since my hypoglycemia diagnosis in 1978. But cutting out ALL CARBS is not the answer America is looking for.

I have never been in favor of ketogenic diets (extreme low-carb diets) unless they are used for a very short period of time, i.e. one to three days maximum. The real secret to weight management for a lifetime is to monitor and control glycogen levels (amounts of stored carbohydrate in the muscles and liver). If you cut carbs too low, you run out of glycogen and while also running out of a quick source of energy. If you intake too many carbs, you overfill your glycogen levels-which forces your body to create body fat from any excess carbohydrate you consume.

Glycogen management works perfectly as the individual increases carbs when glycogen levels get low and decreases carbs when glycogen levels are full. The basic principle of The Fat Burning Diet is that easy!

Carbs aren't the bad guys unless they are refined carbs or carbs you are allergic too-such as wheat and certain other grains. When a person cuts out all starches every other day, as The Fat Burning Diet suggests, weight loss magic can happen. This pattern of eating is perfect for the general population to manage their glycogen levels and their weight for a lifetime.

If you are following a strict low-carb diet, then I highly suggest you make the switch and begin eating carbs from starchy sources every other day and see and feel the difference. You should notice an increase in energy levels immediately. Your performance during workouts should also improve dramatically, and your fat cells should shrink faster than ever before. Like the 1970's antacid commercial stated, "Try it, you'll like it!"
